It's nice to see middle grade readers getting a taste of a magic school story. The voice feels young and fresh and very age-appropriate. The eagerness of the main character to escape on an exciting new adventure is tinged with a little bit of uncertainty at the unknown future, and I'm interested to see how she reacts when homesickness and being an outsider inevitably set in.
