Having read Dhonielle Clayton’s works for young adult readers, I didn’t clock this was targeted for middle grade readers at first. I think this is a solid middle grade story, but will likely be skewed a little too young for older readers who have already been following her writing. That being said, I love to see strong writers moving into the middle grade space to encourage burgeoning readers!
