First of all, I love the cover of this book! I immediately wanted to check it out. After having read the first part of The Manicurist's Daughter, I am intrigued by Susan Leiu's story. It's so unique and interesting. At first I felt like I had nothing in common with her, but that first chapter about going to the hospital and trying to figure out what was going on with her body had me making a connection. It's also in the way Leiu tells the story. Her writing feels very relatable! I do not read a lot of memoirs and if I do, I typically read about famous people. I need something to hook me in and make me really care about who's story I'm reading, and Susan Leiu did that from the Prologue.

When she talks about her mother's death from plastic surgery, I almost didn't believe it. I feel like you don't hear about people dying from surgeries like that these days and I instantly wanted to know more. It made me want to go along on her journey to figure out what happened too.

This book is a uniquely written memoir that I enjoyed reading so far!
