I enjoy memoirs of people I'm interested in. While I'm not Vietnamese, her story sounded interesting. And it was.

I did like how she wrote the English meaning after the sentence in Vietnamese. It would have been fun to have a type of 'dictionary' of the Vietnamese words so that I could try and pronounce them, especially the name of people. Sorry to say, but the names of the relatives all started to look the same. That was cumbersome to weed through.

The pressure that the culture puts on itself, was sad. Yet, good to know. That helped me understand a woman friend that I know.

The story started to lag a little the middle, but near the end when the author got to her "World Premiere" (pg 231) the story picked up. Lots of missing parts were revealed. I really enjoyed the way that chapter was written. I could hear all the different voices.

Her and her husband's experience on Mt. Whitney, had me on the edge of my seat. Just, wow.
