I really enjoyed this memoir. There's something so hard-hitting about women detailing complicated and ever-evolving relationships with their mothers-- I'm Glad My Mom Died and Crying in H-Mart obviously both struck a chord with many people, not because of the details themselves, but rather because that dynamic is something that many people relate to. The Manicurist's Daughter is another that I think fits well into that niche of stories, and one that I think will be picked up by many. I really enjoyed learning about the author's Vietnamese heritage and could feel her pain throughout different points of the book, but wish the timeline had been slightly more linear at the beginning (I feel like this happens in most memoirs, though, so can't hold it against her), but found myself much more engaged in the second half of the book. I'm glad BookishFirst gave me the opportunity to read this before it hits shelves-- I will definitely be recommending it to others.
