4.5 rounded up to five stars. This memoir was such a beautiful insight into how the author dealt with her mother's death through food, family, self discovery, and in the end, art. Susan's writing was so personal and I felt like I was right there in the room with her, having a conversation.
We see the author grow from a lonely and misunderstood child, to a young adult just trying to find her place in the world, and eventually to an adult who not only felt closer to her family, but closer to herself through her one woman show about her mother's untimely death. Through trips to Vietnam and hard conversations with her family, we finally piece together who her mother was and what led to her death.
My heart broke for Susan time and time again and I genuinely cried happy tears at the end of this memoir for her successes. Please go read this book, you will not regret it.
