Last year, I read "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides. It was one of those books that keeps you awake at night, because of the goosebumps you have while reading! I read the first part of Michaelides's new book "The Maidens" and can absolutely say that this book will be very popular and loved.
The reader learns quickly that Mariana, a therapist, is mourning a huge loss in her life, and is struggling to cope. We see her at home and with her therapy group, and I definitely wanted to know more about her.
One of her group therapy patients, Henry, is starting to exhibit some very alarming behaviors. Michaelides's description of Henry is so vivid and perfect; I could imagine him in my mind.
It is clear that Mariana may be in danger, and this is a book I am definitely looking forward to reading in full. Great plot, well-developed characters; it all works!
