The author's last book, The Silent Patient, is one of my favorite psychological thrillers in recent years. To say I was excited about reading The Maidens almost seems like an understatement. While this book might not have any jaw dropping moments, it still is a solid read if you enjoy thrillers.

Mariana Andros is a group therapist. Her niece, Zoe, is a student at Cambridge University which happens to be Mariana's alma mater. When Zoe's friend, a member of the secret society, The Maidens, is murdered, Mariana rushes to be by her niece's side. While staying on campus, Mariana becomes obsessed with finding the killer.

I think the author is imaginative and that's why I went in with the expectation that anything is possible in regards to the story. The characters all seemed to be a bit off kilter and therefore you have a big suspect list and you have a hard time crossing anyone off. And for me that makes for a fun read because you get to float a whole bunch of theories in your head.

I wouldn't say I love the direction the author went with the ending but I certainly don't hate it. Not quite satisfied is a decent way to put it. As a frequent reader of this genre, the ending is better than most though.

Thank you to Celadon Books for providing me with an advance copy! All thoughts expressed are my honest opinion.
