When I read the first few chapters I was SO excited to read the rest! The developing plot with Henry was intriguing. And then.... it fizzled just as soon as it had started.

The character development was weak. Not enough physical description so I couldn’t really picture the characters. The story started spinning out of control as soon as Mariana ventured out on her wild goose chase to find the killer. What kind of policing does England have if they let a random psychotherapist in on the case and turns a blind eye to her sleuthing?

I feel like a lot of the characters were not necessary- like Morris and Fred- they were just there to take up space and help wrap the story up.

And... coming back to Henry... he made an appearance towards the end but then disappeared again when he was arrested. He was the most real, most promising character in my opinion. This story could have gone so much further if the author had somehow incorporated this character more.

One positive was that I learned some interesting things about Greek mythology. I am interested enough that I may seek out other books about it.

So, 3/5 overall. Perhaps this novel fell short of my expectations also because The Silent Patient was so amazing. I hope Mr. Michaelides presents us with some better work in the not so distant future!
