This story catapults you into a world where there is loss, neglect and unfulfilled longings of some of the characters that makes them all suspects in a string of murders on a college Campus. The characters leap off the page and make a definite impact that I made me constantly trade on and off who I thought was the killer. This book lives up to every promise of a book expected to be written by Author Michaelides; leaving you breathless and wanting your next fix as soon as you finish. Alex Michaelides is a master at his craft and he’s an Author that is an auto-buy.

Mariana Andros, a group therapist is still struggling with the grief of losing her partner, Sebastian 1 year ago. She deals with patients that have delusions and sometimes develop unhealthy and dangerous attachments to her and so she must be careful. But she doesn’t hesitate when her niece, Zoe who was raised like a daughter by Sebastian and herself since she was very young; calls her after the murder of her best friend. Marianna rushes to Cambridge University to console Zoe and listen to every secret she shares. Zoe’s tells Marianna that the last day her best friend Tara was alive, she was talking about their Greek Tragedy Teacher, how he was up to no good and wanted to kill her. Marianna decides to stay to protect her niece but also to find the evidence needed to put the teacher, Edward Fosca behind bars. Meanwhile, the killings continue, it is now a serial killer crime and the clues look pretty suspect. But as Marianna’s own life is threatened she finds out even more secrets of a group of the teachers pets called “The Maidens” and meets people who will try to sway her away from Edward Fosca saying she’s looking in the wrong place. Who is Marianna to believe? She decides the only way to know the truth is taking any risk necessary to find out who’s responsible.
