The Maidens by Alex Michaelides follows Mariana, a therapist who is trying to solve the murder of her niece’s friend. I went into this book with very high hopes from reading and loving The Silent Patient. I was not disappointed. Even though I came up with theories throughout the book and was partially correct about some things I did not guess the final reveal, which was just shocking. I also think the side plots worked well with giving each other enough time and not taking over the book or the main plot. It was also nice to get into Mariana’s background and how that might affect how she might experience events in the book differently because of this. Another little thing I enjoyed was the easter egg references to his other book, The Silent Patient, which puts both books into the same universe. The writing was also good as sucking you into the story and it keeps you guessing throughout the entire book to the very last reveal.
