I think this is the one book that I would definitively say that I hate. It was genuinely horrible in almost every possible way.
I also did read The Silent Patient first and thought that one was okay. so I'm not entirely a hater!
but The Maidens was just so messy and unrealistic and didn't make any sense. It seemed like 5 stories mushed into one, with shockingly atrocious, lazy, and childish writing??? no character development, no great revelations, nothing unique to draw the reader in, not a single intellectual or realistic character was present in this novel. the ancient greek references also didn't help the book at all.
the main character sucked, all the other characters sucked, the dialogue sucked, the twist sucked, and the ending sucked. I was rushing through it to put myself out of my misery!! lol. too many dumb attempts at red herrings and making every character "suspicious". hated it!!!! don't recommend to anyone!!!! if you're looking for something similar, the secret history and if we were villains are both far better books than this :)
