This is one that makes you want to keep reading. The prologue draws you in and sparks interest. We want to know who Edward is and why the lead Mariana is going to "catch him." What has Edward done? How is he related to Mariana? As the book continues Michaelides descriptive style creates a feeling of curiosity...we want to know Mariana's story, and we find ourselves also asking how did she get here...is she odd?; is she mentally touched?, or is she just hiding something? We wonder if Mariana is experiencing normal grief with regard to Sebastian's passing, or is she obsessed? Michaledis creates an immersive scene with just a hint of apprehension. What is coming next? What haven't we found out yet? The reader begins to think about the implications of Mariana's personal proclivities:a therapist with an "ambivalence about others." So many questions... guess we'll just have to keep reading.
