Marianne has lost her partner Sebastian and nothing about her life is the same anymore. She holds onto his possessions with the same passion she held for him.

Only a short time ago life was normal. She was delivering counselling sessions from their front room. Growing up a lonely child she still can't quite believe she chose therapy as her career goal. Yet here she is melting into the background as her group therapy session carries on around her. After all, being invisible comes naturally.

I have highly anticipated this book as i was a huge fan of The Silent Patient. But reading the first chapter i thought i had mistaken the author as the writing style was very different. With his first book i was engrossed from the start. I didn't like the first chapter of this. Marianne came across boring and the description was wordy. However by the second chapter things are getting much more interesting and you can see why it was important to set the scene in the beginning the way he did.
