I had high expectations right from the beginning on this one because I thought that The Silent Patient was one of the best books I've ever read. Immediately, I was drawn into Mariana's character, as well as many of the other characters portrayed in the book. Mariana is a group therapist who sets off to her niece's college to investigate some suspicious murders. The book has you guessing until the very end as to who the murderer actually is. For me, I want to say it was expected, but yet, unexpected. The link between Mariana's late husband, Sebastian, and her niece is certainly shocking as well. I also loved the brief The Silent Patient tie-ins that Michaelides put into this book. Overall, I highly enjoyed this book and I believe it will live up to most of its hype, but I still preferred The Silent Patient over this one. I know it may be unfair to compare the two, but it is still an excellent read.
