I really loved the beginning of this book and I was so curious as to how it would play out. I was interested in the set-up and with the intermittent breaks with the letters, I was stuck deciding on who I thought the “bad guy” was. I do think the author put a little too much emphasis on creating suspicious male characters without giving them much personality.
However, I was a little disappointed with the outcome. The ending wasn’t exactly expected, but not as interesting as I wish it would’ve been.
I’m not a big fan of the main character as she doesn’t seem to have much personality. Her character seems to hinge on losing her husband and we really learn little about her.
Also, the maidens, the group of girls don’t even have much in the way of the plot. They’re only mentioned a handful of times and really aren’t that significant at all.
Overall an interesting read but not great.
