To say I have been excitedly awaiting the release of The Maidens would be an understatement. The Silent Patient is one of my favorite books of all time, and I couldn't wait for Alex Michaelides' follow-up!

It was important to me that I judged Maidens completely independent of The Silent Patient, and I'm really glad that I made a conscious effort to do so.

This was a slow, dark build that kept me guessing all the way through. And I mean dark... It was an element of the story I wasn't expecting but man oh man did I enjoy it. While I typically don’t enjoy a slow build with a fast and furious ending, the modern day Greek tragedy elements of this one made it worthwhile. In addition, the ending was fantastic and (to me) not predictable at all. The wool was completely pulled over my eyes, once again. Fans of The Silent Patient will be delighted with the Easter Eggs sprinkled in.

Alex Michaelides has a lifelong fan in me!
