I do like thrillers, but they are very hit or miss for me. This, sadly, is a miss. I was leery based on the description, as it seems very...old-fashioned in potentially problematic ways. BUT, I wanted to give the intro a shot, and...it's not for me. The writing style is very over-the-top and purple, and all of the literary allusions were a lot. (I do wonder how the wider allusions to 'The Woman in White' will play out, but not enough to keep reading.)
