I really love when a book grabs you right from the start, and The Maidens does that with the prologue really well. I was hooked, and I didn't even know who anyone was yet, so you can be certain that I'm going to snatch this book up as soon as I have the chance. You get this vibe from even just the first impression, that someone is going to be a shady character, you just don't know who, and that's the best kind of journey: when you think you're figuring something out alongside the main character, yet ... are you really?

Regardless, I'm already hooked and can't wait to find out what comes next. I had loved Michaelides's debut novel, The Silent Patient, and sincerely hope that The Maidens brings me the same thrilling sense of "wait, what?!" and "holy smokes" as The Silent Patient did.
