Right away I am totally intrigued by this book! A murder, a secret society of female students, and a male professor that seems to be able to get away with anything - - possibly even murder? I really like the character of Mariana and her intense concern and desire to uncover what is going on with Professor Fosca, his obsession with the Greek tragedy involving the rites of Persephone, the society of The Maidens, and two unexplained murders. Knowing Mariana is willing to risk everything to get answers, including her own life, makes me need to read this, sitting on the edge of my seat, and unable to put this novel down!
The book cover is one that makes me look twice. The title placed across the female statue, making the image appear anonymous and nameless, makes me wonder if this is how Professor Fosca sees these female Maiden society students? If he is the killer, is the cover a representation of his disregard for those he kills? Absolutely intriguing and a must-read for me!
