Another historical fiction novel about the “girls” of Special Operations Executive or SOE. It had a bonus dual narrative with an American war widow. The widow’s storyline was more compelling than the WW2 SOE lost girls.

I give this book 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. WWII historical fiction is my absolute favorite and it took me nearly a month to get through the book. The author took pains to describe what intense training these women had. Yet how they acted in the field, doing things they would have learned not to do in the first week of training, just didn’t make sense.

I preferred the widow’s storyline for various reasons. The WWII historical fiction niche is vast and the war widow subcategory far smaller. The widow had a mystery to solve but wasn’t in the type of danger the Paris girls faced.

There were no surprises. It was a decent book but not my absolute favorite of the genre.
