This book opens in post WWII New York with the main character, Grace Healy, running through Grand Central Station, late for work. Grace stumbles upon a suitcase, left, forgotten under a bench. Her curiosity has her opening the suitcase where she discovers a stack of pictures, all of women, each of them labeled with a name. Thus begins her search for the owner of the suitcase and the identity of the women in the photographs. How are they connected? Why was the suitcase left?
I felt the book started off strong. I was pulled in by wanting to know who the women in the photographs were and who the owner of the suitcase was. When the story went back in time to during the war and the character of Eleanor Trigg was introduced is when the book lagged a little for me. I felt that Eleanor's character could have been flushed out a bit more to know her history. In fact, I felt that way about many of the women in this book. Although entertaining, I was left wanting more details!
