This book was a surprisingly fast and rather thrilling read. I mean, to be fair, anything regarding sabotage and WWII is thrilling – but knowing, and yet not knowing, how everything ended whilst reading?! AHHH. SO MANY FEELINGS.

I absolutely LOVED Grace. I love that even though she was still devastated over losing her husband, she used Eleanor’s mystery to put herself back together. Plus, she was seriously ballsy! I also loved Eleanor – you could tell that she did care for all her girls, even if she couldn’t show it. Plus, her situation and the betrayal were just so seriously messed up – I was honestly shocked when that twist came around.

And while I really wanted to like Marie, she just felt like the weak chain in the link. Sure, she was really brave for not quitting and for actually going into the field and everything, but like… she was a terrible agent. Smart as a whip, brave af, and if she had the time for proper training, she’d probably be one of the best, but SHE GOT SIDETRACKED BY A MAN. Like, WHY. WHY. WHY. JUST WHY. Seriously – I wish Marie’s story was more along the lines of “she was the crappiest trainee, but became the best spy,” but nope. But also – why was romance even needed in her story? I understood the romance in “The Beantown Girls,” and even in Grace’s storyline, but I truly don’t believe that Marie needed a romance. Unless it was for the extra devastation & emotion – which hi, yes, that was delivered in full AND THEN SOME.

Overall, I did rather enjoy this read, and I’m glad that it’s shed some light on the women of the SOE, because their stories are seriously FASCINATING.
