If the basic facts of THE LOST GIRLS OF PARIS are true, this is a real horror story.

It delivers decent Historical Fiction writing and yet, Marie's decision to leave her child in the care of an elderly relative when she could easily be orphaned felt both selfish and improbable. This did not evoke the anticipated tenderness for their relationship.

The balance of the exciting and often unpredictable plot is constantly overshadowed by death. First, there is the grief of the modern woman, Grace, who discovers and steals a set of World War II photographs of uniformed women. This action alternates with the terrifying fates of the twelve missing radio telegraph women.

After dealing with all the horrifying sadness revealed, it is hard to believe that Grace would not choose the beautiful and generous offer of a happy and fulfilling life with Mark instead of the self-discovery trope.
