Pam Jenoff is one of my favorite historical fiction authors. She does not disappoint in this latest novel. The story jumps between the “current” timeline of 1946 and three years prior, so do pay attention to the headings in each chapter to know who is narrating and when.
The story is narrated by three different women - Grace, Marie, and Eleanor - each a strong character in her own right. It is strengthened through these women telling their own side of their story.
The fact that Jenoff draws inspiration for the boom from the real life women who deployed into Nazi territory in order to weaken their hold on Europe makes this novel all the more intriguing. This is a part of the time period I was previously unaware of. I so enjoyed learning more about the strength and courage of the women of that time period.
