This was a fine historical fiction novel. I was enjoying it for about 1/2 and then unfortunately my interest waned. I think that WWII historical fiction has already been overdone, so a book really has to shine in this space, and this one fell flat for me. The parts of the novel that dealt with the past were great. I was invested in Eleanor and Marie's stories. I didn't care about Grace at all. So often historical novels flip back and forth from past to present, and I think in the case of this one, it could have been done better (or not at all). Why include a 3rd party observer? Eleanor could have revealed everything for us (IMO). The writing style was fine, nothing wrong with it, nothing extravagantly great either. By the end of the novel I had to force myself to finish because I just didn't really care about the outcome.
