The opening captured my attention right from the start. Being that I was a year old in 1946, any story that takes place in that time frame interests me. As I read along I think about the pictures of my mom, dad and grandparents. I see their clothes,my dad and uncle's army uniforms. I also remember the leftover blackout blinds in all the windows.
