Each chapter gives the story of a different character - Grace, Eleanor and Marie.
The diverging dates of the chapters build suspense as we wonder how these women's lives will intertwine. Each character is given enough of a back story to get the reader interested in learning more about her and all seem engaging and likeable - even taciturn Eleanor.
The timeset of World War Two allows this to be believable, as a time when women were increasing their presence in traditionally male occupations - why would they not also venture into the world of espionage and intrigue.
I'd very much like to read more!
