This mesmerizing WWII tale opens in NYC in 1946, as a hungover Grace Healey makes her way through the Grand Central Station terminal, late for working and reeking of the previous night’s escapades. Visiting the busy station for the first time since learning of her husband Tom’s passing, Grace would love to be anywhere but there. Although flustered and late for work, Grace stops to examine an ordinary, abandoned, suitcase, jutting out from a bench. After considering her options, Grace makes the choice to peer inside, and is shocked at the contents. Just as Grace thinks to herself, she should have known that no good could come from that station….

In the following two chapters, readers meet both Eleanor Trigg, as well as Marie. Eleanor, Polish national and Jew, came to London as a Special Operations Executive secretary. A brilliant woman, Eleanor heads up a network of secret agents out of an office at Norgeby House. Just like many during this time period, Eleanor finds herself in the least likely of places. Marie, a recruited secret agent, is finding herself in an unlikely position, much like Grace and Eleanor. Marie, a young mother, made the difficult decision to send her children away to avoid the perils of war.

Author Pam Jenoff holds nothing back, as this novel is sure to be fast-paced and is quite thrilling from the start. I definitely can’t wait to get my hands on the full copy!
