The premise excited me and I couldn't wait to read this gorgeous book with such a unique plot. However, the execution failed to live up to my hopes for this novel.

First of all, while I enjoy dual points of view very much in fantasy especially, I found myself caring about one character more than the other and couldn't wait to get back to my preferred character's story line.

Another smaller item that irked the writer in me was the poor paragraphing; there were frequent occurrences of one speaker's paragraph flowing into the next and this caused me to reread to figure out who was speaking.

A big problem I had with this novel was the number of characters to keep track of. Too many names and relationships to remember for me and it detracted from the plot and point of view characters.

The resolution was unbelievable for me and felt too neat, too much like a monologue, too hurried. I felt headed to the end of the book that the author was setting up a cliffhanger for a sequel, and was disappointed when an unexpected twist was suddenly dropped that felt more like a let down after all the suspense building.

The world building was creative and I enjoyed the setting details. I'm thinking this will have another book set in this world, but it won't be one I will seek out to read.
