I came into this book thinking it was a standalone but left absolutely furious because that cliffhanger at the end totally has me wanting more. Saya and Indir were both complex and really interesting protagonists, though depending on the chapter, they sometimes became more or less exciting. The world felt very vibrant and I loved the emphasis on female friendships and power among each other. My main complaint is that, especially in Indir's part of the story, the conflict never seemed to be fully fleshed out and even though it was a captivating setting, I felt like I was missing something for much of the time. The magical aspects also were a bit confusing at times, but I felt like dreaming and the other gifts made a lot more sense to me toward the end of the book. The way the stories intertwined at the end totally blew me away and Saya's journey was especially lovely to go on. All in all, this was a very solid start to the series and whenever the next book comes out, you'd better believe I will be reading it ASAP.
