The rich description of the sacred city of Alcanzeh, the temples, the Dreamers and other gifted people hooked me immediately.

As Alcan, their new king, begins to throw aside their traditions, chaos descends on the world. Indir has a role in the sacred story of this cycle’s ending. As does Saya, who unravels the truth of her secretive, nomadic life and discovers her true self.

This intriguing story had a thin thread of tension throughout. The land, people, and gifts are delightfully mystical. The descriptions of the use of Song for healing, comfort and lament was beautiful. Dream is described so beautifully—a truly wondrous, limitless place. A soft sweet bit of romance offered both hope and tension amidst uncertain futures. The familial ties (including found family relationships) were heart-warming. The kindness of strangers provided light to fight the darkness.

This YA fantasy based on ancient Mesopotamia was enchanting!
