Overall, I’m intrigued by this first look at the book. I enjoyed Saya’s chapter more than Indir’s, probably because I was able to understand it more easily. Also, I could already start to see Saya’s character come to life and a preview as to how the relationship between Saya and her mother will play out. I was a bit confused by parts of Indir’s chapter. While I appreciate that it put us right in the story, I could have done with a bit more explanation. Perhaps a prologue, or a log of characters and their roles at the beginning. Perhaps the final copy of the book will have something like this, which I think would make the first chapter more enjoyable if it wasn’t as hard to follow. I am excited to keep reading the book though, and I’m hopeful that this already complex world building will pay off in the end.
