I'm always excited to see fantasy stories that aren't Euro-centric. Readers who are predominantly used to that style may initially feel a little off balance with the Mesoamerican influence, but guess what, that's a good thing! Indir's storyline does a lot of heavy lifting with the worldbuilding, at least for these opening chapters, while Saya's was a little easier to follow.
