Wow. Where do I even start with this book? Y’all, it’s looooong (651 pages). I’ve been know you read a 600+ page book in days (Under the Dome, The Stand, most Stephen King books), but y’all this book took me a month to get through 😳 It wasn’t bad or anything, I actually enjoyed it, but it was just so slooow. ⠀

My favorite part about zombie books is usually the outbreak. I love the chaos and seeing how each character reacts and how those reactions set them up for the rest of the story. The outbreak in The Living Dead lasts for 400 pages! Part of the reason it’s so long is because there are so many different story lines (some better than others 🤷🏼♀️)⠀

One of the story lines is that of the actual zombies 🧟♀️ I’ve never read a zombie book that looks at things from the zombies’s point of view. It added a whole other element to the book and I appreciated the creative type added to some of the pages (swipe for example). Anyway, I was surprised when I got to that section and don’t want to ruin it for anyone else but really want to know what y’all think about it! ⠀

Ok, back to the safe stuff. Eventually we find ourselves 15 or so years after the initial outbreak, and for me that part was just ok. I liked catching up with some of the characters and I liked seeing how some of the stories intertwined. I don’t want to give too much away, but the ending is written in a way that makes you think there could be no other outcome. ⠀

All in all I enjoyed The Living Dead and I recommend it to fans of post apocalyptic and zombies. However, I do not recommend this as your first ever zombie book. It’s not exactly an easy read, but I do feel somewhat accomplished having finished it! 😊⠀
