First let me say that if you're hoping to read a scary novel or something with horror, this really isn't that. It is still a good book though. There were moments where the story pulled because of so many individual character flashbacks. Some of them were okay and sometimes I just wanted them to get out of the flashback and get back to the present story. I like that the story was propelled by multiple character perspectives and you were able to see their individual struggles as well as their growth. Often times I wondered which character I would be more similar to in this fictitious world. The other reality is that this book speaks a lot about inequality, social injustice, and racism. If you're not a fan of those topics, then this book may not be for you. I, however, enjoyed how all of these were incorporated into the story and how a lot of things in the story parallel historical and current world views and situations. There were enough typos that I got annoyed, but I am reading an ARC so I let it go. Overall, I enjoyed this story.
