As a longtime fan of zombie movies (Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland rank as some of my favorite popcorn flicks), I'm a bit ashamed to say that I haven't seen any Romero films. Partly because of the dated special effects and partly because the movies might seem trope-y (although credit goes to Romero for inventing the mold that so many zombie films now follow). Through the virtue of being a book, The Living Dead does not suffer the potential pitfalls of poor makeup effects or fake-looking blood. Though it still remains to be seen if this novel will bring anything new to the now over-saturated genre.
