The world's end begins with a flurry of gunshots. A few people try to document the cases as they arise, but simply become overwhelmed - all except one diligent person.

The writing is good (except for a few clunkish repetitive word uses and unfortunate misspellings (offish for oafish, for instance). It does seem to lack something in the beginning that many other classic horror novels have. There's simply not that overwhelming sense of unease. This has more the feel of a medical mystery in the beginning.

It's definitely something worth reading, though.
