In THE LIFE COUNCIL, Tremaine gives advice on adult friendships, discussing their importance, her philosophies, and what she calls 'the life council.' This being a self-help book, one could say this touches everyone - we all deal with friendships in one way or another. I agree with the importance of adult friendships and the influence they can have on our lives, and I also thought her philosophies - friendship is a to-do, believe the best, just go, like every selfie, and your spouse is not your best friend - were all especially thought provoking and on target. In the life council she describes it as "a selection of friends who fulfills various rolls in your life. They are the friends you can call upon when needed" (p.43). She describes it like a board of directors. It's helpful to think of friends satisfying different areas of need in my personal life, and something different for someone else. We are all different and connect in different ways to others. That being said, I don't think I will take the time to assign my friends to particular roles in the way that she did (in example, battle buddy, yes friend). Not to minimize that importance, I just don't see myself putting the time and effort into organizing a list.

After reading this book I have thought more about my friendships, their importance to me, and ways I can continue to grow them (and future ones) to obtain maximum happiness for all of us. I also realize we all have our own niche to give and receive in each others lives. I received an ARC copy of the book, and all comments and thoughts are my own unbiased opinion.
