I very much enjoyed this book, and wholeheartedly recommend reading it, even though, for much of the book, the characters aren't particularly likeable. I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't a fan of the author's previous book, The Plot. This one is so much better. The Oppenheimer family is wealthy but broken. Secrets that could explain things are kept from the children, triplets through in vitro fertilization (with a fourth egg that has been frozen all the while the triplets are growing up). Johanna, the mom, pours her all into her family, without getting the happy family she dreams of. The times that inform the novel are well represented, the characters all develop believably. I couldn't read fast enough to find out what would happen next, and this book is not a thriller! I also enjoyed all the discussion of art in the book and spent time looking up the various artists mentioned, looking up their work and learning about them.
