The blurb sounds like something I'd enjoy. However, I've attempted to read, and struggled with, books by this author in the past, and based on the sample, I think that would be the case with this one, as well. I was very surprised that the sample started at chapter 5, which didn't help change my mind, as I already felt disconnected from the story. And if that's how long it takes for the book to even "get started," that confirms this book isn't for me.
