The Voyage of Poe Blythe is a typical ya romance/coming of age set in what I think is supposed to be a "new" setting but it feels all too familiar. Ally Condie is a decent writer but the story lacks real depth and the characters feel all too familiar. I read Matched, and thought it was much the same (trend writing vs trail blazing) but wanted to try her work again. Sadly, this one feels not just similar to Matched in terms of writing to trend, but also a tad forced, as if it was written because it had to be instead of wanted to be. I'm sure I'm an outlier on this one, but it ultimately rang hollow. For ya fans who love Condie's works, or for those seeking something "different" that's ultimately safe.
