I’m not even sure what to say about this book.
For one it was border line dystopian book, and I’m sooo over dystopian books but it was actually very good for it being one. I was a bit hesitant at first when I realized it was one but in the end I was pleasantly surprised.
I had no expectations going into this book. I read the match series by ally when I was much younger. I remember really enjoying that series but now that I am older, I wasn’t sure how I would like her writing. I find her writing to be very much the same and that I do indeed still enjoy it.
Her writing style truthfully I think is very similar to mine. I love how she had short sentences at times that just drove stuff right into your gut. And I was over the moon by how the chapters were so short and sweet. I much prefer short chapters since it makes the reading experience that much quicker. And quick it was i read in this book I’m about 3 days which is excellent time for me! I loved how easy it a read this ways.
The story itself is an interesting one. I didn’t really like how Poe our main characters switched her alliances too often. First she was against the raiders, then joined them, then turned on them and wanted to go to this magically new place her leader was taking people too. That Irrational me a bit. But otherwise poe was a strong female lead. Truthfully I liked how distant and odd she was. She reminded me a lot of myself. I prefer my female leads to be slightly cold hearted with just a touch of warmth and that is Poe.
While I don’t know if there will be a second book to this one, the ending is a wide open door that could definitely be a second book and truthfully I hope there is. I would love to see what happens once Poe and everyone gets back to the outpost and learns that their precious leader has abandoned them. I would be alll over that book.
Over all I really enjoyed this book! Don’t let me saying it’s a dystopian scare you off from reading it! Definitely give this book a chance! And oh did a mention the whole book takes place on a boat??? Kinda in love with that actually no idea why.
