Ally Condie is great at creating a dystopian world that you can get lost in, and this book is no exception. Poe is not your typical heroine, and she remains a bit of a mystery through the whole book, but she is still likable and relatable. I appreciated her commitment to her ship and crew, as this made it easy for me to root for her.

The novel was fast-paced and exciting, though it was easy to get a little lost in all the action. Though this book had a lot going on in terms of plot and characters, themes like loyalty and courage rooted the novel in reality for me.

The ending felt a little abrupt and unsatisfying, though this could be because I just wanted to spend more time in this world.
