This book grabbed me from the start. I was curious and enthralled about the world Poe lives in. I've always been a fan of dystopian novels and found myself trying to piece together the clues about the world in which they live. Bit by bit things are revealed which makes for a more interesting read.

With all dystopian novels, there has to be some sort of underhandedness; we see pretty early on that there is a mysterious purpose behind the Admiral's need for what's dredged out of the river. Poe also has to suspect that someone aboard is working for the Admiral.

I love that Poe is a young, female Captain. She is fueled by her desire for revenge and it's that, along with her skepticism of the Admiral, that drives her decisions.

It's a book that I didn't want to stop reading; paced well, filled with action and intrigue!
