I was not a huge fan of the Matched series by this author, so I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this book when I picked it up. But I am extremely glad that I did pick it up and try it out because if I hadn't then I would have missed out on such a fantastic and original young adult novel.
This book was unlike any other YA book I had ever read. The story is exceptionally unique, and takes place in a dystopian land where most of the resources have been used up and many people have to scavenge and make by with what they can get. It's bleak, unsettling, and also unbelievable full of hope. The main character, Poe, has experienced many traumatic events (one of which that we witness as readers within the first pages!) and while she is hard and tough, she never loses her ability to hope.
