The prologue is a great opening to this story; the author sets the stage well with a character we want to know and root for, but we don’t understand right away what her personality truly is. Poe Blythe lost the boy she loved so much two years ago when a Raider shot him, and she has made her way to the Admiral’s ranks by feeding her need for revenge. She deisgns what comes to her in a dream, outfitting the dredge that brings the Outpost their precious gold with gears and mechanisms that constantly turn, chewing up the Raiders that dare to attempt boarding. Her internal struggle makes the story that much more intriguing and relatable. The first impression was definitely not enough for me; I need the whole story now.
