I, like most people, know of the author from her previous works, specifically the “Matched” series. And while I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it either. There was something missing but it was still interesting to read.

“The Last Voyage of Poe Blythe” is different right from the start. It seems darker and right from the prologue you can tell the exploration of the main character, Poe, will be darker because of it.

“He’s heavy, and yet he’s not here at all.”

Poe Blythe is clearly suffering and wanting revenge more than anything after the death of her long-time friend turned boyfriend. She’s distrustful, and hard. She’s out for revenge, but also power and control. She’s also one of my favorite character types to read about because of all of this. The broken, and yet still strong.

There’s clearly going to be an exploration on her character, but also that of the raiders and I personally can’t wait to see how the story will unfold and what the character development will be like.
