This was like if Agatha Christie wrote a Leave the World Behind (100 years out) meets Never Let Me Go. For the first one hundred pages or so, there is a this odd sense of not really knowing what is happening with the world and strange sense of unease (like if Leave the World Behind was set 100 years after the world shattering event, but still no real answers as to what is going on). Once we get to the murder, things really start to pick up and take off. All the villagers on the island are connected to Abi, a sort of all knowing AI. I probably should have seen it coming, but I was shocked by the big reveal about half way through. It did feel a bit tedious and maybe a bit overdrawn as we sort through the puzzle and mystery, but overall the pacing was okay. I do really love the cover and am now more motived to check out the backlist from this author -- I've had The Seven 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle on my shelf for years just waiting to be read.
