Inhabiting a sort of lush post-apocalyptic island village, magic and mystery and murder abound in this lavishly-written tale. Once I began, and was introduced to some of its peculiar characters, I couldn’t wait to read more and find out what might happen next, and in what strange world it would be.
I love the haunting nature of this creative take on a mystery, and it combines so many story elements I enjoy, from the best of apocalyptic fiction to suspenseful murder mysteries, to quirky characters, and an almost poetically descriptive style of prose.
This is the kind of story that keeps you up reading late into the night, eager to find out how it ends, even as you don’t want it to be over. Who needs sleep anyway?
